Fight CRC Welcomes New Board Members

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – June 20, 2018 – Fight Colorectal Cancer (Fight CRC) welcomes two new board members that bring not only a wealth of knowledge and professional expertise, but also very personal experiences with colorectal cancer (CRC).

John D. MacLeod is a survivor diagnosed in 2013 with stage IV colon cancer. Three years into his treatment, John’s wife persuaded him to apply to be a Fight CRC Ambassador. His selection as a 2017 Ambassador
introduced him to a whole new world. MacLeod has become a passionate advocate and mentor to new advocates and ambassadors.

“The work that Fight CRC does for patients, caregivers, and scientists is leading the fight against these horrible diseases. When you are around The Fight CRC Team, you can’t help but want to get involved. Their passionate attitude is infectious!”

MacLeod has over 25 years experience in the Healthcare Revenue Cycle and the Healthcare IT industries. After working for almost ten years in a major urban teaching hospital in various roles in revenue cycle, he joined SMS/Siemens as a revenue cycle consultant and project manager working in hospitals nationwide. In August 2011, he became the Revenue Cycle Strategist for Siemens Healthcare working with providers to realize the value of Soarian. MacLeod left the industry in 2016 to focus on his treatment. He lives in suburban Philadelphia with his wife, Angela a family practice physician and hospital administrator. He has two daughters Emily and Sarah.

Katherine (Katie) Zahner’s father was diagnosed with Stage IV colorectal cancer in 2009 that spread to his liver. He defied the odds by surviving past the five year mark and is doing well today.

“I watched my Dad, my hero, go through the greatest fight of his life. There were lots of tears, vulnerabilities, uncertainties, and pain, but he persevered. It is truly a miracle that I have my Dad with me today, and for this incredible gift I will dedicate my efforts and time to help find a cure for colorectal cancer.”

Zahner is a Principal at Brown Smith Wallace, a public accounting firm, with a specialized focus in providing services to the not-for-profit community.

Zahner also has a passion for supporting the missions of her clients and providing valuable insight to industry best practices. She volunteers her time in many different areas of the community, including serving as Aim High St. Louis Board Treasurer, Mental Health America of Eastern Missouri Board Member and Finance Committee Member, and now with Fight CRC.

MacLeod and Zahner join a group of eight other board members who volunteer their time to provide vision and support: Nancy Roach (founder and board chair); Michael Robertson; Dana Rye; Andrea Kramer; David Wicks; Helene Byrnes; Constantine Contopoulos; Alan Balch, Ph.D.; Teri Griege; and Ron Doornink.
