Climb for A Cure Goes Virtual!

Climb for a Cure 2018 is upon us and for the third year in a row, Fight CRC will be summiting a beautiful Colorado 14er in the prime hiking month of July! This annual event continues to grow and we are so excited for more of our advocates to join this movement to “Fight by Hike!” Our aim is to raise more research dollars while also deepening the bonds of our One Million Strong community. And, we want to encourage our Fight CRC family to get moving because exercise is important for everyone, and especially those facing colorectal cancer!

NEW This Year – “Virtual Climb”

We are so excited for the climb, but we’re also excited because this year there’s a way to get involved even if you’re not in Colorado with us!

We’ve made a way for you to be involved in the unique Climb for A Cure experience – the  Virtual Climber Registration option!

“What does it mean to be a Virtual Climber?”

A Virtual Climber is someone who wants to show support of Fight CRC’s Climb for A Cure from home. When you sign up, you will be asked to set a 6-mile challenge for yourself. This can be walking, running, hiking, swimming, cycling (or another physical activity – it’s your choice!) After all, this is your climb!

Registration is free! By signing up, you will automatically receive an online fundraising page that allows you to spread the word about Climb for a Cure’s goal:  raise funds and awareness for colorectal cancer! You will also receive a mailed packet from Fight CRC including your next key steps!

“Why 6 miles?”

This year, our Colorado hikers will be summiting Quandary Peak in Breckenridge, Colorado. This particular peak is a round-trip effort of approximately 6.5 miles. We want our Virtual Climbers to feel as connected to this journey as possible, so why not complete a 6-mile venture of your own from home?

If 6 miles is a stretch for you, please feel free to lower the distance. And, make sure to work with your healthcare provider before undergoing any type of exercise routine.

“But I don’t live by any mountains…”

If you’re not able to “hike” – that’s okay!! You can still be a Virtual Climber! The 6-mile challenge does not have to be a literal “climb.” It can simply be a walk through your neighborhood, a run through downtown, or heck, take a treadmill expedition!

You do You.

Depending on your own health goals, we encourage you to set a 6-mile challenge that is right for you.

I am busy on July 16, do I need to do all of this in one day?

A benefit to being a Virtual Climber is you have more control over your schedule and pace. If you’d like to complete your challenge on the same morning as the Colorado hikers (July 16), that is great! If you’d like to spread out the miles over the course of July, that’s great too!

We’d love to hear what you’re doing, so let us know your plan in your registration. AND – post about your progress on our Climb for A Cure Facebook Event Page. Let’s encourage each other!

Tell me about these fundraising goals…

Our Climb for a Cure fundraiser is designed to suit your fundraising tastes and comfort levels! Some people love an individual challenge while others would rather contribute to a larger team goal. Whatever you do – it’s up to you!

When you register, you have the option to

  • create an individual fundraiser
  • join a team that is already in place
  • start your own team

We encourage healthy competition because it pumps us up! And, we need the excitement as we aim to raise $ 35,000 to support Fight CRC’s key efforts in advocacy, awareness, patient education and research!

Okay I’m sold. But what happens after I sign up?

After you register, Fight CRC will mail you a  Virtual Climber packet, complete with detailed instructions and a unique Climb for A Cure Bracelet.

We hope 100 people will commit to the Virtual Climb! Will you help us reach our goal?

Let’s Get Moving!
